Characters

Some are loyal. Some are lost. Some are lying.

Packkeeper is set in and around the village of Riverside. It’s filled with families, children, leaders, wanderers, and friends – and people who aren’t what they seem. And over them all hangs one shared fear: the vicious wolf packs, and the terrifying old legend of the Packkeeper who controls them.

This page is a spoiler-safe guide to the characters you’ll meet as the story unfolds. To avoid giving anything away, some of the familiar faces and faithful companions you meet later on don’t appear here. Characters will be added carefully as new chapters are released, and some details will remain hidden until the story itself (or future additions!) reveals them.

Creatures of hearth and forest

In the world of Packkeeper, no one has ever considered the idea of a domesticated wolf. To the villagers of Riverside, and every village around them, wolves are not companions, protectors, or creatures to be understood. They are dangerous, dirty scavengers that live beyond the safe paths, beyond the fields, and beyond the warmth of the village fire.

Children are warned about them. Guards watch for them. Families fear the sound of them in the dark. As far as Riverside is concerned, a wolf pack is the greatest danger anyone could face.

But is that all they can be?

In Packkeeper, the line between the settled world and the wild world isn’t as simple as Jak and the villagers believe. As Jak’s path moves him deeper into to the forest, he begins to discover that the creatures Riverside fears most may be more complicated than the stories say.

Faces from the settled world

The settled world of Packkeeper is full of ordinary faces: families, neighbours, workers, and people with their own worries. Some may mean more to Jak than he ever realized.

Edda: Jak's nemesis

Moravis: the matronly village healer

Jorath: the thoughtful old man

Martha: the silent watchful guard

Gavon: the blustering guard chief

Scrumpy: Rablo’s jolly cook

Deryn: Rablo’s haughty housekeeper

More characters will be revealed

As you read through Packkeeper, I’ll keep widening the world around you. You’ll meet new faces beyond Riverside’s streets, and familiar faces may begin to look different as you uncover more of the story.

Some characters will make sense the moment you meet them. Others may seem ordinary, strange, harmless, or even forgettable at first. But in Packkeeper, not every important character arrives loudly, and not every truth is clear from the beginning. And everyone has a part to play.

As I release new chapters, I’ll keep adding to this page. I’ll update the details when it makes sense, but I’ll keep some things hidden until the story is ready for you to discover them. Check back as the path widens and you venture with Jak deeper into the unknown.
